From Livigno take the Mottolino cable car up to reach a network of footpaths and mule tracks to the Passo d’Eira, Trepalle and then the Passo del Foscagno (2,291m).
The first descent leads to Isolaccia (Valdidentro) at about 1,400 m above sea level, from which bikers then take the lift up to an altitude of 2,000 m. An easy dirt track runs through cool conifer woods to the Bike Park Le Motte (Valdisotto), with a fun descent to the plain around Bormio (1,200m).
The Bormio 3000 cable car now takes you up to the spectacular scenery of the highest peaks all along the trail to Santa Caterina Valfurva (1,738m).
Then take the gondola into the Valle dell’Alpe, just below Monte Sobretta, at an altitude of 2,775m.
After a descent on a single trail, you climb towards the Passo dell’Alpe (2,465 m), which looks out onto the Val di Rezzalo in the Stelvio National Park. Then comes a long descent to the Adda Valley, where the route leads along a quiet cycle track to Tirano (497m), a beautiful small city in the mid-Valtellina, surrounded by terraced vineyards.
From Tirano up to the Bernina Pass the landscape becomes Alpine: from the Bernina Express (Rhaetian Railway) there are spectacular views of the Poschiavo lake, the glaciers and the Bernina Group.
A final ride through the wild Val da Fein leads back to our starting point in the Livigno Valley.
